The Fort Benning Family Advocacy Program presents this Domestic Violence Prevention Training in support of “October is Domestic Violence Awareness (DVAM) Month."

"Yes”, I have PTSD!

Join the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) as a former NHL Professional Hockey Goalie Clint Malarchuk and his wife Joanie tell their story of pain and survival.

Clint Malarchuk is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey goaltender who played in the National Hockey League between 1981 and 1992, was gravely injured in 1989 while playing for the Buffalo Sabres. His throat was cut by a skate blade during a play on goal.

Miraculously, Clint survived the accident only to be thrown into the world of PTSD, depression, alcoholism, prescription drug abuse, domestic violence, and suicide.

Hear Clint’s story of how he felt he was a “Warrior Athlete” who was not supposed to feel or show weakness, and how he overcame the obstacles and demons to become an advocate and inspiration to others.

Hear his wife, Joanie tells her story of what it was like to watch the man she loved spiral out of control and into deeper crisis.

Units will receive FAP, ASAP and Suicide Prevention credit IAW applicable AR’s.
