The Family Advocacy Program is hosting a virtual training with the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA), Child Abuse and Domestic Violence: Implications for Children and the Abused Parent with presenter Doreen Nicholas. 1.5 CEUs will be offered. This webinar will provide insight on how abuse and trauma affect parents and children, the importance of training for responders, and how to facilitate a safe, positive, and supportive response for the children and victim parents.
When domestic violence occurs in families with children, many times child protective services get involved with various outcomes for the children, abused parent and the abusive parent. When does domestic violence to a victim parent become child abuse? Who is responsible for the children’s safety? Who is making the home environment unsafe for that child? This workshop will explore those outcomes; positive and negative, answer these questions and discuss the importance of training for responders and how to facilitate a safe, positive, and supportive response for the children and victim parent.
